Dr. Jiexia (Elisa) Zhai is Assistant Professor at the Department of Sociology and Gerontology and the Asian/Asian American Studies Program at Miami University. She received her BA in Sociology from Peking University, and her MA and PhD in Sociology at the University of Texas at Austin. Before coming to Miami University, she worked as a Post-doctoral Research Fellow at the Institute for Studies of Religion at Baylor University. Her research focuses on comparative studies of religion in Chinese societies and in the US, marriage and family, health, and Asian immigrants in the US. As a Principal Investigator, Dr. Zhai, together with her collaborator Dr. J. Gordon Melton, recently received a $100,000 research grant funded by the John Templeton Foundation, for their research on the spread of the Chinese indigenous Pentecostal and charismatic movement in the East Asian Chinese community–the Case of the True Jesus Church.
