Non-Resident Scholar Research: His interests include sociology of religion, political sociology, social movements, culture, comparative historical research, and quantitative methods. Area: Development; Political Sociology; Religion. Selected Works:Dr. Woodberry’s dissertation “The Shadow of Empire: Christian Missions, Colonial Policy, and Democracy in Post-Colonial Societies” and his article “Christianity and Democracy: The Pioneering Protestants” (Journal of Democracy, 2004; with Tim Shah) analyze the political consequences of religion. Articles in the American Sociological Review (1998), Social Forces (2000), Annual Review of Sociology (1998) and Blackwell Companion to Sociology (2001) evaluate survey measurement of religion, research on conservative Protestants, and an overview of the sociology of religion.
