Baylor Series on Social Studies of Religion

A significant ongoing project of the Baylor ISR Program on Religion and Population Health (ISR) is oversight of the new Baylor Series on Social Studies of Religion (BSSSR), to be published by the Baylor University Press (BUP).  The Director of PRPH, Dr. Jeff Levin, serves as Series Editor.

The mission of the BSSSR is to provide a series of introductions and summary overviews of the study of religion in each of ten basic or applied social science disciplines or fields.  These include five volumes summarizing social research and scholarship on religion within core social science disciplines (psychology, political science, sociology, history, and economics) and five volumes summarizing religious scholarship and programming in applied social research fields (population health, criminology, public policy, social work, and education).  Authors include the most preeminent researchers and scholars of religion in each of these respective disciplines or fields.  Two volumes will be authored by Baylor ISR faculty:  the volume on religion and population health by Dr. Levin and the volume on religion and criminology by Dr. Byron Johnson, the Director of ISR.

The current schedule is for volumes in the BSSSR to begin publication in 2012 and to be rolled out over a period of about three years.  Other volumes may be added in the future.
